These small, stubborn growths on the bottom of your feet can make every step a reminder that something isn’t quite right. We’re here to help you get rid of plantar warts and get back to walking comfortably.

Plantar Warts

What Are Plantar Warts?

Plantar warts are caused by a common virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters the skin through tiny cuts or breaks. These warts typically develop on the soles of the feet, often in areas that bear the most pressure, like the heel or ball of the foot. This pressure can cause the wart to grow inward, creating a hard, thickened area of skin that can feel tender or painful when you walk. Plantar warts can appear as small, grainy growths with tiny black dots in the center, which are actually clotted blood vessels. While they’re not dangerous, they can be contagious and spread to other parts of your foot, or even to other people.

How We Treat Plantar Warts

At Virginia Foot and Ankle Center, we take a straightforward yet effective approach to treating plantar warts. The first step is confirming the diagnosis and understanding how long the wart has been present. From there, we’ll discuss the best treatment options for your situation.

For some patients, over-the-counter remedies might not be enough to fully eliminate the wart. That’s where professional care comes in. We offer treatments like cryotherapy (freezing the wart), prescription-strength topical medications, or minor procedures to remove the wart. In more persistent cases, advanced options like laser therapy may be recommended.

Why It’s Important to Address Plantar Warts

While plantar warts might seem like a minor inconvenience, they can become more painful over time, especially if left untreated. They can also spread, making them harder to manage. Treating them early ensures faster relief and helps prevent complications. Our goal is to not only remove the wart but also minimize discomfort and reduce the chances of it coming back.
